Melons

A melon is any of various plants of the family Cucurbitaceae with edible, fleshy fruit (e.g. gourds or cucurbits). The word “melon” can refer to either the plant or specifically to the fruit. Many different cultivars have been produced, particularly of muskmelons. Although the melon is a botanical fruit (specifically, a berry), some varieties may be considered culinary vegetables rather than fruits.

Canteloupe

One of the joys of eating homegrown cantaloupe, or muskmelons, is savoring the rich flavor and intense aroma. Our cantaloupes offer thick and juicy flesh that’s richly fragrant. Easy to grow. Vines are productive, yielding plenty of fruits for eating and sharing. Cantaloupes are more than 90% water, so be sure to provide frequent, regular waterings. To save space, plant 1 foot apart at the base of a fence or trellis where the long vines can climb. You can also tuck a single plant into a large container, like a half whiskey barrel. Days to maturity: 75

Honeydew

Sweet Delight, green flesh heirloom variety. Smooth, round to oval-round fruits are very sweet, flavorful, and slow to crack even in cool, cloudy weather. The 3-3 1/2 lb. melons hold well on the vine or after being harvested. Days to maturity: 85
