Lettuce

Lettuce is part of the Lactuca (Lettuce) genus. Its scientific name is Lactuca sativa. The botanical name epithet for Lettuce (sativa) means ‘having been cultivated’.

Lettuce is one of the easiest crops to grow and is a fantastic choice for the beginner gardener. Is a cool season crop and is tolerant of some frost (though not hard freezes). It gets bitter with hot temperatures, and in most places cannot be grown through the summer, so ensure you plant at the right time of year. This plant tends to be ready for harvesting by mid spring.
